【摘要】:Toavoidequipmentfailure,agearoilshouldremainahomogeneousliquidandtheperformance-enhancingadditivesshouldnotseparateoutwhentheoilisstoredforanextendedperiodoftime.Inaddition,becausedifferentoilsareoftenmixedwhentoppingoff,gearoilsfromdifferentmanufacturers,orcontainingdifferentbasefluidsorperformance-enhancingadditivesshouldbecompletelymiscibleandcompatiblewitheachother.Anyincompatibilityofsuchmixturesmayalsoresultinequipmentfailureifgelationoradditivedropoutoccurs.Thetestproceduresdescribedinthistestmethodaredesignedtoevaluatetheperformanceofgearoilsineachoftheabovecircumstances.ThistestmethodisbasedontheseparatetestmethodsFED-STD-791/3440.1andFED-STD-791/3440.2.MinorchangeshavebeenmadetotheFEDtestmethodstoprovideacoherentunifiedprocedure.Thesechangesdonotsignificantlyalterthetestprocedures.Thistestmethodhas,therefore,potentialforuseasanalternativetotheFEDtestmethodsingearoilspecificationssuchasSAEJ2360andSpecificationD5760.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofstoragestabilitycharacteristicsandthecompatibilityofautomotivegearlubricantswhenblendedwithreferencelubricants.Thepurposeofthetestistodetermineifperformance-enhancingadditivesseparateoutunderdefinedconditions.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
